Long time no update?

I've been hard at work on a few projects. Parker Street Cinema is doing well, playing a lot of shows and getting noticed. I spent 6 weeks battling other Songfighters in an American Idol meets Survivor style challenge called Nur Ein. I came in 4th out of 25. Not bad eh? I am also still plugging away on my February Album Writing Month album. It is mostly done at this point, so stay tuned.

I've updated the shows and put the Nur Ein songs in the Mp3 section. Enjoy!

What a great time in LA. Good friends, good music, good times.

My Nomad Cafe show is this Saturday. My mom will be there.

I just booked myself to play a quick set at a fun event on Saturday 2/25. There are more details below in the show section.

I had the date wrong for my Nomad Gig. It is Saturday the 18th, not Sunday the 19th. Now I can go see Reggie and the Full Effect at Bottom of the Hill. You should go too!

Greeting from 2006. I'm already hard at work on those albums I promised you and have some shows coming up both near and far. I hope to see you there.

November 2005

Well, the year is winding down. I wrote/recorded about 20 songs and played about 20 shows. I'm going to spend the rest of the year writing and recording and will be back in 2006 with more shows and albums. My pledge to you is that 2006 will be the year of albums for me. Get your CD buying dollars ready.

Thank you again to all my friends and fans who came to see me play this year. From two hours long marathons at the Missouri to emotional sets in LA, I very much appreciate your support, time, and attention.

Updated the archive. Check it out.

Booked my first show of 2006! How cool is that?!?!

9/13/2005
Booked a fun show at Spud's Pizza in Berkeley. They have a special music room and vegan menu options. This is where Univibe used to be, so you know there is music mojo in the walls.

Thanks to everyone who came to the Nomad Cafe on Friday. It was a fun night of music. I'm not sure what is next, but we may be in a huge battle of the bands festival thing in San Francisco soon. Stay tuned!

I've been all over this great big country, and I'm glad to be home.

I'm playing an acoustic show at the Nomad Cafe in Oakland on 9/2/05 with the New Incredibles and Loyalty Day.

Show at Speisekammer tonight!!!

I've got a song in Songfight this week called Season Finale. It's a pretty rocking song. Please check it out, listen to the others, and vote for your favorite.

I recorded some songs at Expressions College for Digital Arts last weekend. It was a 12 hour session for their students to learn recording. The songs are rough, and the mixes even rougher, but we had a fun time. The band was Blue and Stephen from sonofsupercar on drums and bass, Sam on guitar and synth, Erin on vocals. Here are the songs for you to enjoy:
Dark Haired Beautiful Girl
Friday Night
Two Bucks and I'm Yours

5/19/2005
Awesome Bortwein designed KNI buttons available. E-mail me if you want some.

5/2/2005
Booked a solo show at Speisekammer in Alameda.

I've got two new songs this week in the mighty world of songfight. The first is a solo song called Don't Break My Heart Again, George Lucas. You can find it here. The second is a collaboration with my good friend Glenn Case called Brand New Car under the band name Explino!. Check it out here. For those of you songfight illiterate, click on the band name to hear the song. Listen to the others and vote for your favorite. It's fun!

So sorry for the lack of news. Life gets in the way.

The LA show was great. You can hear the tracks below:
Diane
Melancholy Blue
Pale skin spoon Shaped Girl
Run to You
shreds
Sunny Again
Week Without Ears
Zero to Phantom

More tracks and pictures here. Thanks to Sean and all the LA crew for a fun night.

On March 27, 2005 my father, Philip L. Mahru died. I was with him and he died peacefully.

It would mean a lot to me if you would listen to my song about Cancer when you get a chance. Instead of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society and see your doctor to make sure that you are healthy.

Thank you to everyone who called and sent e-mails. Your support means everything to me.

Here's something random. I recorded a rock and roll version of Do Re Mi for a Sound of Music project. Check out all the tracks here.

Here is a song I wrote a few weeks ago, recorded quickly on Friday night for your Valentine's Day listening pleasure.

Run to You

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Missouri on Saturday. The Bread Circus songs were well recieved. I was suprised I ran out of energy at the end there. I promise to be more rested for the next show.

I made a number of slight changes to the website. Thanks to Geoff Allen for the pictures from Saturday's show. I'm trying to add more content, so check out my new Song Archive.

2/2/2005
Slight change in the time for this Saturday's show at the Missouri. Bryan K. Ward and I are going to play a set of old Bread Circus songs. I know this won't mean a lot to my new friends, but back in the day, Bread Circus was a very good band.

Saturday's show at the Missouri was a success. Thanks to everyone who came.

I wrote and recorded 4 songs yesterday in the spirit of the Album-A-Day. You can check out the songs here.

I’ve booked a number of nights playing solo/acoustic at the Missouri Lounge in Berkeley. This is a great place to hang out and have a few drinks while your old friend Ken sings you some songs.

The mp3s seem to have gotten corrupted during the move. I'll see what I can do about that soon.

1/4/2005
Website moved to a new server, so I seem to have lost my December update. All is well. The 12/18/04 show at the Accordion went well. No cops, no car crashes. It was mentioned on-line in the Sf Examiner. It didn't seem like many people came though.

I'm not sure what 2005 has in store for me and the band. Let me know if you have any ideas!

No news for so long... Things are fine. I've been writing songs and playing shows... in other bands. Not to worry though, KNI will be back live on 12/18 with new songs to play for you.

Such a great trip to LA. Road trip was totally smooth, show was great, everyone was super cool. Despite horrible feedback, we did well. It was fun to rock out on such a big stage. I felt like a star.

8/18/2004
New shows added. Getting ready for the LA show. Planning to head up to Seattle in September.

8/12/2004
Thanks to Arwen and Bert for having us play their party. Despite getting shocked by the mic and dropping Ryan's telecaster, it was fun. Solo show in San Luis Obispo also went well. Thanks to Michelle Mulholland and Wayne Gamble for playing as well. Next stop, Los Angeles!

Sorry to say we weren't able to perform on Saturday night. I was inside the Werepad, when Erin came in to say that someone had just gotten rear-ended outside. I went out to check it out and saw that her car had also been hit and that the car was now speeding away. I ran after it to get the license plate number and call the police. Erin's car is totalled. She had to make arrangements to get it junked. Unfortunately, she doesn't have very good insurance. Anyone who would like to make a donation to help her out can do so through this Paypal button.

Sorry for the lack of update. I've been sooo busy. I'm writing a new record that I hope to start recording in a month or two. The show at Belladonna was our best yet. The cops came and shut down sonofsupercar before they were able to finish. There is audio of the show, but Blue has yet to mix it. Austin was a blast, and I had a great time playing in everyone's band. There is tons of audio and video for this show. Here's a link to some. I'm working on two Songfight.org Presents... shows right now, one in SF and another in LA.

I wanted to let everyone know that Erin, Sam, David, and I started another project called "Loyalty Day" where I play drums and Erin is the lead vocalist. We've been writing and recording songs for Songfight. You can go here for most of them. The other two are here and here.

Wow, two shows in one weekend, plus I bought a Rhodes! I played to an empty room in Santa Clara. The Alyis n Rose Café is nice, it was a shame that no one came. Sunday was a looong drive to Magalia, CA, but totally worth it to pick up my 1977 Rhodes Stage Piano Mark 1. I love it. You will now hear it on everything I record! Sunday's show at Brit Arms was the best yet. The band was tight, and I could hear myself sing, so sang well. There were even people there to hear us. See you Friday at Harmony Bakery.

The 13th was a lot of playing for me. First the afternoon set at Rachel's party, and then two more sets at Harmony Bakery. It was fun to use my sequencer at Rae's. Harmony Bakery is a nice place to play, only there weren't many people there. Those who did wander in, seemed to sit and enjoy. I hope more of you can make it to the April show there. I'm excited about Saturday's show @ Belldonna. It is really shaping up to be a grand event. See you there!

Show at Railroad Espresso was good. I appreciate everyone who came and listened. It was amazing because it was like playing in a living room. Lucas Martin and Jeff Salman were also excellent. It was Lucas' first time playing live, but he has been writing songs for years. Thanks to Danny for hosting the event. He told me that even though he doesn't play an instrument, he recorded an entire CD on his computer. Wow!

2/24/2004
Bottle Cap Comps. added my "Shreds" to Vol. 1 of their compilation series. It was sent to local college radio stations. You can contact them here to request it.

2/12/2004
More acoustic shows booked.

2/11/2004
The incredible Bortwein made an awesome KNI pixel tee. You can buy one here. Also, there is a limited edition Ken and the Nerdcredibles shirt here. Check out all of Bortwein's pixel tees here.
